From the recording Honesty and Chocolate

A social comment song - I rarely touch such themes as I find most songs of that type unsatisfactory. However, I felt, after my own experiences recently, that I had something to say - from the vantage point of an older person to a younger one.

Lyrics

I’ve been through a million lifetimes I’ve being close to hell I’ve seen through a billion laughing While smiling as well

I’ve made all the right decisions I’ve made all the wrong ones I can tell I walked familiar pavements
Travelled so far but never dwelt

I’ve won a million battles against every foe
Most of them left me bleeding though you’d never know

I’ve heard a billion stories
Told a few hundred of my own Listened to every promise Travelled so far but never home

Everyone thinks they own the truth Certainties tends to cloud the proof
Freedom to speak it must prevail Logic and reason - not for sale

You’ve had a brief encounter so you think you know
Just what the world has come to and where it should go
Well, I’ve been the same direction Confidence surging through my bones
You’ll walk familiar pavements Travel so far but never home

Everyone thinks they own the truth Certainties tends to cloud the proof
Freedom to speak it must prevail Logic and reason - not for sale
Everyone wants to fix the roof Believing that they have the skills to suit Mistaking the hammer for the nail Knowing the difference - Not for sale

Go through a million lifetimes
Go near to hell
See through a billion laughters
While smiling as well

We’ll make all the right decisions
We’ll make all the wrong ones come what may We’ll walk familiar pavements Travel so far and maybe stay We’ll walk familiar pavements Travel so far and maybe stay
